Programs for a better Earth at the library
Dayton Metro Library will celebrate Earth Day (April 22) with a few programs geared toward encouraging patrons to take care of our planet.
■ Earth Day Extravaganza: Monday, April 22 from 4-5 p.m. at the Trotwood Branch, for families. Learn how to take care of the planet; listen to stories and complete fun activities.
■ Recycled Crafts: Tuesday, April 23, from 3:30-5 p.m. at West Carrollton, for families. In this DIY program, patrons will turn “trash” into treasure by using their imagination to create something fun and unique while also helping planet Earth. The branch will provide recycled items, crafting supplies, and suggestions on what to make.
■ Sustainability for Earth: Tuesday, April 23, from 6-7 p.m. at the Brookville Branch, for adults. According to FeedingAmerica.org, almost 40% of food is thrown away by Americans annually. In this program, learn what can be done to help reduce waste and cut back on throwing food away with fun tips and tricks that help save money and protect our planet. Registration is required.
■ Quilt Lawns: Save Money and Help the Earth: Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to noon at the Wilmington-Stroop Branch, for adults. Grass yards take time and money to grow and maintain, which can include spraying chemicals that are harmful for the environment, and maybe for humans too. In this program, learn about an alternative to traditional lawns that saves time and money and puts less strain on pollution: quilt lawns.
