Kenneth E. Biberstein, 76, of Indianapol­is, Indiana passed away Monday, February 20, 2023, in Robin Run Rehab Center. Ken was born in Berne, Indiana, on February 8, 1947, to Alton and Metter Esther (Sprunger) Biberstein. In 1969, he married Shirley Bates Biberstein who preceded him in death in 1989. Ken was a devoted member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Indianapol­is. He was a graduate of Berne French High School, went to on receive an undergradu­ate degree from Ball State, and a Master’s Degree in art education from St. Francis University. His teaching middle school and high school art in Freemont, Fort Wayne, and Plainfield spanned a period of thirtyseve­n years. To know Ken was to perceive his priorities in life: faith, family, friends, flowers, art, music, football (his much-loved Colts), and basketball (his beloved IU). Ken had a unique gift for intertwini­ng the Spiritual into his day-to-day living. As he tended meticulous­ly to his flourishin­g gardens, Ken “saw God at work in nature.” And with respect to St. Luke’s worship music he wrote, “It will always leave a lasting impression on my soul. My heart explodes with joy that only God appreciate­s.” Ken is survived in death by his wife Patricia (La Fontaine) Biberstein, two daughters Chanda Becker of Fishers and Kara Wolf of Indianapol­is, two grandsons Chad Becker and Finn Shirmeyer, two sisters Elsie Rigdon of North Manchester, and Gaynelle (Dan) Study of Spencervil­le, his brother Dave (Joleen) Biberstein of Columbia City, sisters-in-law Rhina Biberstein of Berne, Judy La Fontaine of Decatur, Ann (Jack) Grothaus of Delphos, Ohio, Ruth (Charlie) Ellis of Dubuque, Iowa, and Sherry La Fontaine of Van Wert, Ohio. Ken was preceded in death by his brother Bob Biberstein, his sister Nancy Neuenschwa­nder, and two brothers-in-law Ed La Fontaine and John La Fontaine. There will be a visitation from 10-12 on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Indianapol­is at 100 W. 86th Street, 46260. A memorial service will follow at noon. Memorials may be made to St. Luke’s United Methodist Church of Indianapol­is.
