Clifford E Landis, 91, of Decatur, Indiana passed peacefully away after a long illness on March 9, 2023. He was born May 6, 1931, the son of Earl S. and Bertha (Fugate) Landis. A man of many hats, Cliff began at an early age helping farm the family acreage, raising chickens, running a dairy operation, and eventually doing a little blacksmith­ing for area farmers. Upon graduating in the final class of Kirkland High School in May 1949, he purchased a bulk milk route and operated it until his marriage to the love of his life, Dixie D. Hill, on January 27, 1951. Cliff was proud of his work as a custom frame fitter for Dunbar Furniture in Berne, Indiana. Moving from there, he establishe­d a career as a semi driver for Western Auto for 18 years, Incel Insulation for 14 years, and finally for Hammond Bros. in Decatur, Indiana. In 1961, Cliff and Dixie purchased their farm, raised their four children, and built a chicken house for 20,000 laying hens. Finding Christ, having been baptized in 1945, Cliff raised his children accordingl­y, serving for years as lay and youth leader for the local United Brethren Church in Monroe, Indiana. Farmer, furniture maker, trucker, business owner – but his most important titles were father, husband, and Christ believer.

Survivors include his children, son, Gregory (Candy) Landis of Monroe, Indiana; son, Brent (Kathy) Landis of Alexandria, Indiana; son, Jeffrey Landis of Waterloo, Indiana; daughter, Jill Tomlinson of New Haven, Indiana; brother, Cleo Landis of Columbia City, Indiana; six grandchild­ren; and 11 great-grandchild­ren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dixie (Hill) Landis; daughter-in-law, Janet Landis; two sisters, Ruth Landis and Marie Mitchel; and six brothers, Leonard, Homer, Harvey, Arthur, Herman and Willard Landis.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, 520 N. Second Street, Decatur, Indiana with Pastor Brent Doster officiatin­g. Family and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the funeral home.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caretakers of Summit Health and Living in Summitvill­e, Indiana for their care and love of their father during this trying period.

In lieu of flowers, Clifford’s family would appreciate memorial donations be made to the Decatur Church of God thru Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home.
