Police in Adams County probed five accidents in the past several days

At 7:40 a.m. last Tuesday, the Decatur Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersecti­on of E. North Adams Drive and US 224. The report said Claire V. Nelson, 18, Fort Wayne, was turning onto North Adams Drive from the highway but crossed left of center and struck a car headed in the same direction by Evan M. Padgett, 18, Oakridge Place, Decatur. Damage was estimated at between $1,001-$2,500 to the cars.

At 3:40 p.m. Friday, Madison A. Schoof, 22, rural Decatur, was backing out of a parking spot on the Walmart lot and collided with and eastbound car operated by Antonio Sparks, 19, Fort Wayne, that was driving behind her. Between $2,501-$5,000 in damage was done to the vehicles in the crash.

At 5:29 a..m. Saturday, two vehicles collided at Nuttman and 13th Street according to a Decatur police report. Authoritie­s said Gene A. Ratcliff, 80, E. Washington Street, Monroe, was merging into traffic but failed to see a vehicle behind him driven by Alyssia D. West, 17, N. 17th Street, Decatur. West told police she was westbound on Nuttman Avenue and that Ratcliff had pulled out in front of her after attempting to change multiple lanes. She was unable to avoid striking the Ratcliff vehicle with the mishap resulting in an estimated $5,001-$10,000 in damage

At 7:26 a.m. Saturday, the Adams County Sheriff’s Department was called to US 27 and Winchester Street for a two-vehicle mishap. The report indicated Ricardo M. Garza, 42, Fort Wayne, was southbound on US 27 in the right turn only lane so he could turn onto Winchester Street. At that point, David L. Perks, 66, Winterset Drive, Berne, tried to merge into the turn only lane and struck the Garza car. Between $2,501-$5,000 in damage was estimated to the vehicles.

At 4:57 a.m. Saturday, deputies went to a van-deer crash at the intersecti­on of SR 124 and CR 300 E. Police said Harry J. Keirns, 60, Van Wert, Ohio, was westbound on SR 124 when a deer ran onto the road and he was unable to avoid hitting the animal. The mishap caused an estimated $2,501-$5,000 in damage to the van.
