- Matthew Klingenberger Sports Reporter

The South Adams Starfires smashed 17 hits and two home runs in a comfortable victory over the Southern Wells Raiders 20-3 in Poneto, Indiana.

The fireworks started early for South Adams (7-6 overall, 2-2 Allen County Athletic Conference) with a pair of runs in the first inning followed by another tally in the second.

The same pattern would continue through the top of the fourth, with South Adams up 6-0.

Southern Wells (3-14, 0-4 ACAC) did get on the board with a run of their own in the fourth.

South Adams got the run back their next time up and added three more before the session ended.

The Raiders showed fight by cutting the lead down to 11-3 with two runs in the sixth, but after a nine-run top of the seventh from the Starfires extended the lead to 17 runs, it was crystal clear that the day belonged to the visiting team.

Bekah Patterson was one of several Starfires to put together memorable individual performances on Thursday.

Patterson reached base six times and was fivefor-five in official at-bats. One of those hits was a home run, and she fell just a single short of the cycle. She did drive in half-a-dozen runs.

Gracy Bixler also went yard for the Starfires.

Macy Pries scored four runs and stole a base.

Five South Adams players produced two hits or more.

The South Adams pitchers had all of the run support they neededand then some. Still, the trio of pitchers showed no signs of complacency.

Reagan Beitler allowed just two runs over three innings, while Peyton Pries pitched three herself, allowing no runs or hits. The tandem combined for five strikeouts, and Gracy Bixler struck out one in her lone inning of work.

Bristal Chapman, Kenzie Paxson and Jadyn Yencer each scored runs for Southern Wells.

After the offensive display they put together on Thursday, the Starfires will look to keep the runs flowing following a quick turnaround. The squad will play host to Fort Recovery (OH) on Friday night.
