Local athletes earn high marks at boys track & field sectionals

New Haven High School was the site of sectional track & field action for the boys on Thursday, with athletes from Adams County earning their way to regionals.

The Adams Central Jets had several standout performers in the evening’s field events.

Two of the top three finishers in the discus competitio­n came from Adams Central. Trenton Hoffman won with a distance of 158-and-ahalf feet for his throw. Cashton Reynolds earned third with a throw just shy of 142 feet.

Zac Wurm finished as the runner-up in the shot put. His throw traveled better than 55 feet.

Cam Smith took home fifth in the high jump by clearing five-and-a-half feet.

On the track, Logan

Clark placed sixth in the 800 meters for the Jets.

Bellmont had a strong performanc­e in the distance events.

Ian Webb placed third in the 1,600 meters while Elijah Obringer went one better in the 3,200. Webb posted a time of 4:32.88 and Obringer crossed the line in 10:04.92 seconds.

The team of Harry Gunsett, Ben Sprague, Trevor Smith and Webb took home fifth in the 4x400 meter relay race. The Braves clocked a time of 3:48.83.

Like Adams Central, Bellmont found success in the field events.

Their best result on the field was the second place earned by Smith in the pole vault. Smith jumped 11 feet and six inches. Teammate Evan Sovine finished seventh in the same event.

South Adams’ best result on the track came from Dakota Sprunger. Sprunger finished the 3,200 meter run with a time of 10:27.25, good for fourth place.

C a i d e n Neuenschwa­nder earned fifth in the 800. Connor Hyman also finished fifth in the 300 meter hurdles.

The Starfires were fourth in the 4x800 relay. The team of Neuenschwa­nder, Sprunger, Wyatt Mann and Mark McKinley put up a time of 8:37.13 seconds.

Tytus Lehman was sixth in the long jump.

In the overall team standings, Adams Central finished sixth ahead of

Bellmont who were seventh and South Adams in eighth.

Fort Wayne Homestead won the team event.

For each sectional event, each of the three highest-placers qualify for regionals. Others can also punch their regional ticket depending on how their results stack up against competitor­s from other sectionals throughout the state.
