Four vehicles in one crash

An accident involving four vehicles was investigat­ed by the Decatur Police Department at 12:48 p.m. Thursday but the incident fortunatel­y did not result in any injuries.

Police said the mishap occurred at 13th and Monroe and started when a northbound vehicle operated by Amber Shoemaker, 38, rural Decatur, was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of a SUV driven by Mary E. Heiser, 32, W. Chapel Chase Drive, Decatur. That impact forced the Heiser vehicle into a car in front of her driven by Steven W. Beckman, 58, Hoagland. Beckman’s vehicle was propelled into the rear end of the fourth vehicle in the crash driven by Tina Hindenlang, 58, Yorktown Road Decatur, who was waiting in traffic to turn into a nearby parking lot. Damage to the four vehicles involved in the accident was estimated at between $10,001-$25,000 by police.

Decatur authoritie­s also probed two other crashes on Thursday.

At 12:48 p.m., Cary P. Brandt, 66, rural Decatur, was in the process of backing up his van when he struck a parked vehicle owned by Larry C. Fullhart,

Bellmont Boulevard, Decatur. Brandt told police he did not see the other vehicle before backing up and police set a damage figure of between $2,501-$5,000 in the crash.

At 1:52 p.m., city officers responded to a two-vehicle accident at Jefferson and Eighth Street. The police report said Claudia A. Liechty, 69, Adams Street, Decatur, was eastbound on Jefferson but failed to see a westbound vehicle coming at her operated by Jacob O. Marbaugh, 31, Fremont Lane, Decatur. As Liechty turned, she struck the Marbaugh vehicle that had the right of way. Damage to the vehicles was estimated at between $2,501-$5,000. Despite not being at fault in the crash, Marbaugh was given a pair of tickets by police for not having insurance as required on his vehicle and for having a false or fictitious registrati­on.

The Adams County Sheriff’s Department responded to a pair of accidents Friday morning.

At 5:43 a.m., Terri A. Rhoades, 64, rural Geneva, was northbound on U.S. 27 near C.R. 850 S when a deer ran onto the road and into the side of her vehicle. Damage was placed at between $2,501-$5,000.

At 5:57 a.m., Joseph T. Angelo, 25, Leo, was headed southeast on U.S. 27 near C.R. 1000 N when a deer ran onto the road. Angelo struck the animal with the front end of his vehicle sustaining an estimated $1,001-$2,500 in damage.
