Don’t forget to drive safely!
A couple near misses prompted Highway Department Superintendent Brad Yoder to go before the Commissioners with his concerns. On multiple occasions member’s of the County Highway crew have experienced other drivers running stop signs and pulling out in front of them after stopping.
“This goes for anybody driving on any of the roads,” stated Yoder. “This includes highway, state, and back county roads. One of my employees watched a vehicle run a stop sign and said it missed them by inches. I am stressing this now because of the crops. “
He explained that after doing some background work, the Department has identified places where these accidents are occurring more frequently. While there are some places where signs may be added for clarification, yet Yoder did acknowledge that turning more of the intersections into four way stops is not ideal and could seriously impede the flow of traffic.
“I do not want to see anybody get hurt on our roads or hurt anywhere,” Yoder continued. “I just really want to stress driver awareness. I want to make everyone aware that there is a lot going on out there and to please pay attention.”
“I knew I have gotten emails of a twoway intersection east of town,” stated Commissioner Stan Stoppenhagen. “It is not that hard to stop. It doesn’t take much time to stop and look.”
He added that he has worked with the Sheriff’s Office on the matter and that they continue to monitor areas that produce more accidents.
Though they will have an executive session scheduled for this Friday, the next public Adams County Board of Commissioners meeting will be held on Tuesday, July 25th at 10:00 a.m.
