Pettibone and Butler low scores lead to Bellmont win

- Matthew Klingenberger Sports Reporter

Bellmont golfer Meghan Pettibone and Krosbi Butler put together two of the top performances of the evening Wednesday as Bellmont defeated East Noble.

The front nine of Noble Hawk Golf Course in Kendallville was the setting where the Braves won with a team score of 202, nine better than the Knights.

Pettibone and Butler tied for the best Bellmont score of the day and second-best mark overall with a +14.

Pettibone recovered from a tough first hole by making par on the second. She ended the round well after earning pars on seven and eight.

It was a tough start for Butler, but she rebounded well in the second half of the round. Like Pettibone, Butler finished seven and eight with a par on each hole.

Key for Bellmont (6-3, 4-2 Northeast 8) on Wednesday was how close the scores for each golfer on the team were.

A par on two helped Abigail Blythe to finish within two shots of Pettibone and Butler. Ella Hockemeyer finished play at +18, and a par on seven by Addi Johnson allowed her to finish three shots behind Hockemeyer.

The best individual result of the day went to Lily Oburn of East Noble. Oburn was consistent throughout the round and scored a par on seven before completing play at +11.

But the gap between Oburn and her teammates was too big for the Knights to overcome.

Kendal Belschner scored a +18. Nora Laur was one stroke behind Belschner, and Emma Raatz and Makenna Strohm ended the round tied at +23.

The Bellmont Junior Varsity team also played well Wednesday.

Morgan Huss posted the best score on the team. She completed the seventh hole with a par to finish at +18.

Bellmont will be off on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday morning, the Braves will host the Northeast 8 Conference meet.
