Vehicle pursuit, search warrant leads by multiple arrests by ISP
An attempt by Indiana State Police troopers to serve an arrest warrant on a Bluffton man at a rural Adams County residence Tuesday ended up being a lengthy process with the man fleeing the scene thus leading troopers on a pursuit chase that ended in Monroeville when the man turned onto a oneway street.
Police said at around 2 p.m. they went to the 7800 north block of CR 300 E in an attempt to serve an arrest warrant on Kain Lee Vaughn, 28, Bluffton. Police added the warrant said Vaughn was wanted on an Allen County probation violation by being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Upon seeing the officers, Vaughn leaped into a passenger car at the residence and attempted to flee police. He went north into Allen County where he was quickly apprehended by police without incident in Monroeville.
Troopers noted that as a result of the arrest and additional investigation work, they were able to develop probable cause to seek a search warrant to return to the Adams County residence on CR 300 E and search the residence. An Adams County court ultimately granted the request and at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Indiana State North SWAT Team was summoned in to assist in executing the search warrant.
As a result of the authorized search, police discovered several firearms and various illegal drugs. There were two persons at the house at the time of the search and they were both arrested on charges.
Bernardo Garcia, 40, Selkirk Lane, Decatur, was charged with maintaining a common nuisance and for possession of marijuana. Both offenses are considered class A misdemeanors.. He refused to sign his arrest book in sheet (which he can legally do) and is being held without bond at the jail.
Mackenzie Rae Vanlue, 25, Rochester, was also in the house and arrested for possession of methamphetamine and possession of a legend drug, both of which are a level six felony, and possession of a controlled substance and possession of paraphernalia, each of which are class A misdemeanors.
In addition to a pending warrant out of Allen County, Vaughn was charged with dealing in a controlled substance, a level three felony and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, a level six felony.
Troopers at the scene of the house on CR 300 E were assisted by the ISP North Swat Team, the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Adams County Sheriff’s Department, and Parker’s Wrecker Service of Fort Wayne.
