Starfires win will final dual before Team State

In their final test before they compete in the IHSWCA Team State Finals in Rochester on Saturday, the South Adams Starfires looked impressive in a 48-17 win at Huntington North on Thursday night.

Competing on the primarily red mat in Huntington, South Adams (12-4, 4-2 Allen County) built a big lead that left the Vikings facing an uphill climb for the remainder of the meet.

At 157 pounds, Isaiah Meyer got the Starfires off to a desirable start with a pin against Christian Jeminson. Only 50 seconds had elapsed when he gave the Starfires a 6-0 lead.

Wes Summersett then doubled the advantage with a pin against Korbin Kalhaefer after 62 seconds at 165.

The Starfires continued to roll at 175. Luke Bauman also ended his match in the first period, getting the fall against Logan Helmett after 47 seconds.

Huntington North (11-8, 2-4 Northeast 8) got on the board when Kayden Mayer

posted a 6-0 decision over Ethan Riley at 190.

Byran Roll stopped any Viking momentum before it started when he pinned Zach Bishop. His fall at 215which came seven seconds

into the second period- gave the Starfires a 21-point lead.

Carson Moyer of Huntington North shaved three points of the South Adams advantage when he recorded a 2-0 decision against Phoenix Boxell

at 285 pounds.

The match at 106 was a double forfeit.

Daniel Rupp was the next Starfire to earn a fall, pinning Trenton Walker with eight seconds left in the match. His win at 113 put the Starfires up 30-6.

21 seconds were still on the clock in the first period at 120 pounds when Dakota Sprunger got Braden Hilyard down for a fall, giving the Starfires six more points.

A 5-0 decision in favor of Will Patterson against Patrick Flowers at 126 added three more to the South Adams tally.

Sawyer Teusch gave the Vikings their first fall of the evening when he pinned Brendan Sprunger at 132.

Wyatt Mann got three of those points back for the Starfires in the ensuing bout. The 138-pounder scored an 11-6 decision over Soloman Barnum.

Colton Bollenbach­er defeated Kenyan Buckland by fall with 20 seconds left in the opening period at 144.

Luke Teusch ended the night with a technical fall for Huntington North. The match was stopped when he made the score 17-2 against Nathan Plattner.

South Adams will open competitio­n on Saturday morning against Southmont. The meet is due to get underway at 9:00 a.m.
