- Matthew Klingenberger Sports Reporter Decatur Daily Democrat

With the Northeast 8 Tournament beckoning, Bellmont picked up a convincing road win over the Fort Wayne Carroll Chargers on Tuesday, 58-18.

The Chargers got off to a great start with a fall at 132 pounds. Omar Hamad gave the home side a 6-0 lead after he pinned Will Franze in the second period.

Bellmont (28-1, 7-0 Northeast 8) controlled the night from that point on.

The dominance for the Braves began at 138 pounds. Keven Loshe got Mason Bennett down for a fall with 29 seconds to go in the first period.

The Braves then took a lead they never gave up when Sam Wolpert earned a technical fall at 144 at the end of the second.

Bellmont took a 17-6 lead with 17 seconds remaining in the opening period at 150 when Blake Luginbill secured a pin over Ryan Myers.

Bellmont had captured the lead and momentum at that point, but they were not nearly done yet.

At 157 pounds, only 73 seconds were required for Gavin Davis to earn a fall versus Noah Bowser.

While he did not come away with a pin, Duke Myers picked up the second technical fall of the night for the Braves. The match was stopped when he took a 22-6 lead against August Adams.

Xavior Palacios kept Bellmont surging when he pinned Parker Niman in the middle stages of the first round.

Cole Mendez earned the win at 190 pounds by decision against Jayden Barrie.

Like many of the matches before it, a second period was not needed for the match at 215. Keagan Bluhm put the contest away with 42 seconds left in the first with a pin against Harrison Fitch.

Grady Baker added three points to the Bellmont lead with a win by decision at 285, beating Bradyn Lothamer, 8-1.

Carroll (5-13) finally stopped the string of Bellmont triumphs with a fall at 106. Boston Blake pinned Ben Mills late in the second.

The result was already well beyond doubt at that point.

The Braves won the final two matches they contested. Ethan Curtis and Henry Faurote both won by fall against Cheyenne Welch and Andrew Gerard, respectively.

Michael Furniss of Caroll won the final match of the night by forfeit.

The Braves are due to start competition at Huntington North at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
