Jets capture ACAC title
The Adams Central Jets followed up their triumph in the Allen County Athletic Conference Duals earlier in the season by earning first place in the ACAC Tournament at Bluffton on Friday night.
The Jets finished the competition with a team total of 287 points. South Adams finished third on 214 points.
A pair of forfeits meant that Titus Loshe of South Adams and Myles Kaehr of Adams Central faced each other in the semi-finals at 106 pounds. A first-round fall sent Kaehr to the championship round.
Ultimately, Griffin Bynum of Jay County won the tournament at 106 pounds. Loshe rebounded nicely to earn third place.
Adams Central had another wrestler finish as the runner-up when Kale Beer reached the final round at 113. He did so after defeating South Adams wrestler Daniel Rupp in the prior round.
Levi Johns of Bluffton was the winner at 113. Rupp ended the tournament in fourth place.
The first Adams County champion was crowned at 120. After a forfeit in the first round, Dakota Sprunger picked up wins over Cooper Glassford of Jay County and Jackson Bingham of Adams Central to take first place.
Bingham finished in second place.
After knocking off Starfire Will Patterson in the semi-finals, Dylan Ogg of the Jets advanced to the championship at 126. He fell short in the final to Cody Rowles of Jay County by major decision. Patterson went on to place third thanks to a 7-0 decision over Carson Mason of Woodlan.
The first Adams Central championship came from Brason Schortgen at 132 pounds. He finished the bracket with a fall in the final.
In spite of falling short to Tony Wood of Jay County in the championship match at 138 pounds, Maverick Dubach still had an outstanding run. He defeated Tyler Guise and Andrew Mirelez to get to the final.
Colton Bollenbacher represented South Adams at the top of the podium after he rolled through the field at 144. He earned his spot in the championship after a first-round bye and a fall against Bryce Patrick. Bollenbacher clinched the title when he racked up a 6-0 decision over Jay County grappler Jacob Robinson.
Xander Schwartz of Adams Central placed third at 144 pounds.
One of the most dramatic finishes of the championship round came at 150. Max Byerly edged out Nathan Plattner by a 7-6 decision to win the weight class.
Isaiah Meyer had one of the most impressive tournament runs of any on Friday. Neither of his matches went beyond a minute courtesy of Meyer recording two quick falls. He won the championship match in 27 seconds. Jaret Smith delivered third place for Adams Central.
The final at 165 pounds also came down to Adams Central versus South Adams. This time, the Jets came out on top. Matt Heiser pinned Wes Summersett to pick up the win.
Jack Culler was the winner at 175 for Woodlan. Max Kaehr earned third place after winning by decision in his final match of the tournament.
Trevor Currie continued his stellar season by winning the ACAC title at 190 pounds. He defeated Bryce Wenk by a 5-4 decision in the final.
His teammate Keegan Bluhm followed that display by winning the title at 215.
Zac Wurm of Adams Central was the runner-up at 285 pounds.
