Two veteran NACS board members won’t run again
Twenty-six years of experience on the North Adams Community Schools Board and 100 years of teaching and library experience from just three staffers will all be missed due to voluntary departures this year.
Board member Tim Ehlerding, who will have 16 years of service by year’s end, and Carla Bultemeier, who will wrap up 10 years by December 31, announced at the board’s March meeting that they will not seek new terms.
Two other members will apparently run again this year: Jill Colclasure and Eric Allmon. The board has seven members.
Ehlerding reminded everyone – especially the public, since that’s from where replacements will come – that June 20 is the first day for anyone interested in running for school board to file a petition to do so.
The election will be on November 5 for fouryear terms.
Personnel
North Adams Superintendent Kim Hiatt praised all three retirees for their combined century of service, with 66 years at North Adams.
The leader of the trio is Mike Macke, who will call it a day on June 1 after 40 years as a mathematics teacher and after serving in other capacities over the decades. He’s taught math at Bellmont High School for 36 years and was lauded by Hiatt as “a stalwart part of the mathematics department.” She added, “He’s always been a staple.”
Donneen Dyess will also wrap it up on June 1 after a 35-year career, with five years at NACS. She instructs in chemistry and physics.
In Bellmont Elementary School’s library, Darla Beer will close out a 25-year career here as a paraprofessional.
