Jets deadlocked on two diamonds with Patriots before stoppage
Rain in Monroeville forced an early conclusion to a pair of Adams Central versus Heritage games on Thursday night. The Jets and Patriots were tied at two in the bottom of the second inning when play was halted. In baseball, the two schools were scoreless in the top of the second inning. The baseball stoppage came at a particularly unfortunate juncture for Adams Central (106, 1-2 Allen County). The Jets had the bases loaded with two outs when the players were summoned off the field. Prior to that, Heritage (11-2, 2-0) was retired in order in the first. Adams Central (8-4, 3-1 ACAC) also had the momentum on the softball diamond when inclement weather came through. Heritage (4-6, 1-1 ACAC) posted the first run on the scoreboard when Libby Cain scored on an error in the first inning.
Jasmyne Pearson provided an RBI groundout for the second Patriot score.
The Jets wiped out the Heritage lead in the second when Brinlee Rinkenberger lined the ball to center field for a two-run double. Jenna Cook and Baylee Smith scored on the play.
If not for the rain, the Jets might have gone right back to the plate in an attempt to continue their momentum and take their first lead.
But the game was called off with two outs in the home second inning.
In softball, the Jets will make the trip to Albion on Saturday to face Goshen and Central Noble. The game against Goshen is scheduled to get underway at 12:00 p.m.
The baseball team will host Fort Wayne Bishop Luers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
