New location confirmed for Irondequoit DMV branch
The Department of Motor Vehicles office at 545 Titus Ave., Irondequoit, closed for good at 4:30 p.m. Friday and moved to 525 Titus Ave. in Irondequoit Plaza, Monroe County Clerk Jamie Romeo confirmed.
On its website, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles wrote that the new office, toward the north end of the plaza, would open around mid-April. However, Romeo said it probably will be mid-May.
Work is underway combining two vacant storefronts into one and adding offices, teller stations and restrooms.
Dating back 40 years, the 545 Titus location is the oldest leased DMV branch site in the county, Romeo said.
“I went there when I got my learner’s permit,” she said, adding, “It was in need of rewiring and information technology upgrades, so that’s a big part of what we’re doing.”
The new space also will have more accessible seating — so no more church pews — and ADA-compliant counters.
The hope is that a more open, more accessible environment “will make the whole process” of doing business at the DMV easier, she said.
The budgeted cost for creating the new Irondequoit DMV office is $250,000, which is being paid for by DMV fees.
Because of the closure, an additional mobile DMV office will be set up at the Lincoln Public Library, 851 Joseph Ave., near Avenue D in Rochester, where workers from 545 Titus will be deployed.
It will be open from 10:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on four Mondays: April 1, 15, 22 and 29; three Tuesdays: April 9, 23 and 30; and five Thursdays: April 4, 11, 18, 25 and May 2. Four other mobile offices will be available from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.:
● Wednesday, April 3, at 49 State St., Brockport.
● Friday, April 5, at 214 Clifford Ave., Rochester.
● Wednesday, April 10, at 317 Main St., East Rochester.
● Wednesday, April 17, at 269 Ogden Center Road, Spencerport.
The DMV branch at The Mall at Greece Ridge is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and until 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays. On the last Saturday of the month it is open from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
The Henrietta branch at 1225 Jefferson Road (Frontier Commons) is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and until 6:30 p.m. Thursdays.
The downtown Rochester branch at 200 E. Main St. is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and until 6:30 p.m. Mondays.
County offices will be closed April 8 because of the total solar eclipse. Information about completing DMV transactions online can be found at monroecounty.gov/dmv.
