1st Portillo’s location in Mich. set to begin serving March 16
Portillo’s, the chain known for its Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef sandwiches and burgers set March 16 as the opening date of its Sterling Heights location, the chain’s first in Michigan.
The much-anticipated restaurant is located at 14425 Lakeside Circle and will open at 10:30 a.m. to the public. Inside the 7,900-square-foot restaurant will be seating for more than 180 guests.
This Sterling Heights location is also the first Portillo’s to have garage-style theme including a fully restored 1931 Ford Wrecker, according to a new release.
The restaurant also features decor that draws from the area’s automotive history. It also will have outdoor seating for more than 50 and will have double drive-thru lanes.
“We always look forward to opening Portillo’s in new markets,” said CEO Michael Osanloo in a news release. “Fans in Michigan have been asking for a Portillo’s for years, so we’re very excited to bring our unrivaled Chicago street food and the signature Portillo’s experience to the community of Sterling Heights.”
Each restaurant employs about 150 staffers. The Sterling Heights location is currently hiring.
For the Sterling Heights launch, Portillo’s has designed a limited-edition T-shirt.

Portillo’s will offer a taste of its offerings ahead of the opening from its Beef Bus. The Beef Bus will operate starting Feb.17 serving Chicago-style hot dogs, Italian beef, cheese fries and beverages.
