Michigan Humane takes in 17 puppies
Owner ‘had too many pets,’ had to surrender the dogs
After several weeks of coordinating with a Detroit pet owner about the care of 17 puppies, the Michigan Humane Field Services team took the dogs in Monday to find them new homes.
The owner, who did not want to be identified, told Michigan Humane field agents that the puppies were unplanned litters, according to Michigan Humane.
“The pups are mixed breed,” said media manager Anna Chrisman. “We haven’t identified a breed mix just yet. They’re about eight to 10 weeks of age.”
The owner needed some additional support because they “just had too many pets to take care of,” so they had to surrender the dogs for Michigan Humane to find them new families,
Chrisman said. The puppies are still being assessed.
They are at the Mackey Center for Animal Care in Detroit, according to a news release
“All the puppies appear to be in good health,” she said. “We are still doing their medical assessments and all that.”
Michigan Humane is not able to accept adoption inquiries for these puppies. A timeline for when they will be available for adoption will be posted on the Michigan Humane’s website and social media.
Adoption is first come, first approved, Chrisman said. Adopters that come in are given the opportunity to interact with the pets and then adoption options are processed from there.
