Pistons GM Weaver gets into heated argument with fan at LCA

The Pistons had another low moment Saturday night in a season full of them. And this one is a poor look for the organization off the court.

General manager Troy Weaver had a fiery exchange with a fan Saturday night at Little Caesars Arena during the Pistons’ blowout loss to the Dallas Mavericks, which led to Weaver asking security to handle the situation.

It is unclear how the argument started, but in the video shared online, Weaver is standing in the aisle next to the fans in the seat and appears to say, “I don’t give a (expletive), you’re lucky I don’t beat your ass,” before gesturing to security. The fan responded to Weaver with, “You suck at your job.”

The video does not show how the argument started and cut off shortly after the exchange.

Jeffrey Calloway, a 46-year-old seasonticket holder from Detroit, said he was sitting near Weaver when the fan approached the team’s general manager twice before being escorted away.

“The guy that was in the incident, with the Red Wings stuff on, came over and was pointing at the scoreboard earlier in the game,” Calloway said in a telephone interview Sunday. “Troy Weaver just shrugged his shoulders and said, ‘OK,’ and the guy went back to his seat.

“When (Jalen) Duren got ejected (midway through the fourth quarter), the guy came back and told him that he was terrible at his job. Then, Troy Weaver was telling the fan he had to leave and that’s when ushers or security walked over.”

The Free Press reached out to the Pistons for comment on the incident, but they declined.

The Pistons are tied for the NBA’s worst record at 10-53, and already set the NBA record with 28 consecutive single-season losses from Oct. 30-Dec. 28.
