Capitals 3, Jets 0: Alex Ovechkin scored twice to help host Washington move past the Red Wings into the second wild-card berth in the East. T.J. Oshie had two assists and Charlie Lindgren made 27 saves for the Capitals (3526-9, 79 points). Connor Hellebuyck (Commerce), who started after being pulled against the New York Islanders on Saturday, made 16 saves for the Jets, who have lost three in a row after winning four of five.

Avalanche 5, Penguins 4 (OT): Jonathan Drouin scored 54 seconds into overtime, his second goal of the game, and host Colorado rallied from a 4-0 deficit with 4:20 remaining in the second period. Nathan MacKinnon had a goal and two assists to extend his point streak to 18 games and his home point streak to 34 games. It is the second-longest in NHL history, behind Wayne Gretzky’s 40-game streak in 1988-89. MacKinnon now has 122 points, the most by an Avalanche player since the team relocated

to Denver.

Devils 4, Islanders 0: Jack Hughes collected a goal and an assist in his 300th regularsea­son game, Kaapo Kahkonen made 37 saves to snap a personal 11-game losing streak and visiting New Jersey scored three times in the second period. The Devils (35-33-4, 74 points) won for the third time in four games to get within five points of the Capitals for the second wild-card spot. The Islanders (30-26-15, 75 points) lost for the seventh time in eight games. New York goalie Ilya Sorokin made 26 saves and dropped his sixth straight start.

Panthers 4, Flyers 1: Sam Reinhart reached 50 goals this season, scoring twice and adding an assist, as visiting Florida snapped a fourgame skid. Vladimir Tarasenko and Carter Verhaeghe also scored for the Panthers, while

Brandon Montour chipped in three helpers. Bobby Brink got the goal for Philadelph­ia.

Senators 5, Oilers 3: Defenseman Jakob Chychrun capped a two-goal performanc­e by scoring on the power play with 3:03 left in the third period, as host Ottawa handed Edmonton its second straight loss. Ottawa’s Tim Stutzle and Drake Batherson each collected a goal and two assists and Parker Kelly scored into the empty net. Joonas Korpisalo turned aside 33 shots for the Senators, who overcame Zach Hyman’s 50th goal of the season. .

Hurricanes 2, Maple Leafs 1: Frederik Andersen stopped 31 shots in winning his sixth straight for host Carolina since returning from blood-clot issues and Sebastian Aho scored the winner on a first-period power play.
