Sabres 6, Capitals 2: JJ Peterka had two goals and an assist for the host Sabres. Tage Thompson, Alex Tuch and Rasmus Dahlin each had a goal and two assists for the Sabres (36-35-5, 77 points), who are five points behind the Capitals and Detroit Red Wings for the second Eastern Conference wild-card spot. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 22 saves in the win. Martin Fehervary and Dylan Strome scored for the Capitals (36-28-10, 82 points), who have lost three straight (0-2-1). Charlie Lindgren stopped 25 of 31 shots before being lifted in the third period.

Canadiens 5, Panthers 3: Nick Suzuki scored two goals and the host Canadiens ended a sevengame losing streak against the Panthers. Joel Armia, Cole Caufield and Jake Evans also scored, Alex Newhook had two assists and Sam Montembeau­lt made 37 saves for the Canadiens (2933-12, 70 points), who have won four of five. Anton Lundell had a goal and an assist, Aleksander Barkov and Sam Bennett also scored and Anthony Stolarz made 34 saves for Florida (47-24-5, 99 points), which has lost four of five and eight of 10 (2-7-1).

Penguins 6, Devils 3: The visiting Penguins scored five unanswered goals to erase a third-period deficit. Evgeni Malkin scored twice and added an assist, Sidney Crosby added a pair of goals and Michael Bunting and Bryan Rust each had two helpers for the Penguins, who avoided being swept in the three-game season series with New Jersey. Erik Karlsson and Rickard Rakell also scored for the Penguins, and Alex Nedeljkovi­c made 23 saves for his second win in as many nights. With the win, Pittsburgh (34-30-11, 79 points) created a threepoint cushion over the Devils (36-35-4, 76 points) in the Eastern Conference wild-card race.
