Man pleads guilty to theft of Jackie Robinson statue

A man pleaded guilty to helping steal a bronze statue of Jackie Robinson from a Wichita, Kansas, park.

Ricky Alderete, 45, was charged in February with felony theft valued at over $25,000, aggravated criminal damage to property, identity theft, and making false informatio­n.

He will be formally sentenced on July 1 after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary, aggravated criminal damage to property, interferen­ce with law enforcemen­t, criminal damage to property, theft, making a false writing, and identity theft. A district judge told Alderete the maximum sentence is 229 months, or over 19 years, in prison. Alderete will also have to pay $41,500 to League 42, a youth baseball league named for the Hall of Famer's uniform number.

The 275-pound statue was taken from McAdams Park in Wichita on Jan. 25, and only its feet were left after thieves dismantled it.

Padres 4, Dodgers 0: Yu Darvish retired the first 14 batters he faced Sunday and allowed just two hits in seven shutout innings as he extended his scoreless streak to 17 innings since coming off the injured list for host San Diego.

Mariners 8, Athletics 4: Julio Rodriguez hit his first home run at T-Mobile Park this season as hsot Seattle moved past Texas and into first place in the American League West.

Rockies 3, Rangers 1: Ezequiel Tovar homered, Brendan Rodgers had two hits and host Colorado became the last team in the majors to sweep a series.

Cardinals 4, Brewers 3: Michael Siani doubled in the go-ahead run in the seventh and struggling Paul Goldschmid­t added a homer and RBI single as visiting St. Louis rallied to snap a sevengame losing streak.

Diamondbac­ks 9, Orioles 2: Zac Gallen pitched six strong innings and visiting Arizona avoided a three-game sweep. Gallen (5-2) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, when Anthony Santander and Jordan Westburg hit consecutiv­e doubles to begin the inning.

Yankees 10, Rays 6: Jose Trevino stroked two of visiting New York’s five home runs as the Yankees bashed their way to a second series win over Tampa Bay.

Red Sox 3, Nationals 2: Ceddanne Rafaela hit a two-run double to help host Boston win its second straight.

Giants 6, Reds 5 (10): Casey Schmitt launched a walk-off double to left-center field with two outs in the 10th to give host San Francisco wins in the final two games of the series.
