Petty Dynasty plus Modern Mopar Funny Cars

Racing Champions Mint 2018 Release 1

1:64 | $42 (set of 6)

This set is all over the map, but every casting in it has collector appeal. We start with a pair of Petty NASCAR racers. The 1957 Oldsmobile King Richard ran during much of the 1958–59 seasons, including the inaugural Daytona 500. But wait—wasn’t that a convertible? Sort of. Petty Enterprises built the car as a hardtop with a bolt-on removable roof so that it could run in either class depending on the event, but it was the same car with the Air Lift sponsorship on the rear quarter. Petty ran it at Daytona without a roof, but the car often ran as a hardtop, like it appears here. No ambiguity about the other Petty car: the legendary Aero Warrior 1970 Plymouth Superbird in which he won 18 races that year. From 500-milers, we jump to quartermilers and a pair of 2017 Dodge Charger NHRA Funny Cars: the NAPA car driven by Ron Capps and the Pennzoil car driven by Matt Hagan. They are teammates and both former champions driving for Don Schumacher Racing. The set is rounded out by a pair of unracelike trucks—a Chevy Silverado and a Ford F-350 Dually—both 1999 models.
