FINAL THOUGHTS
While on paper the 1974 Carrera RS 3.0 is an evolution of the road-going 2.7, in reality, it is a barely tamed race car. Of the 109 3.0s built by Porsche, 55 of them left the factory as RSRs destined for track use. Even the 54 that were registered for public streets wore enough exotic competition equipment to skyrocket their sticker price to $25,000. One look at the racing pedigree confirms that it was worth it: In 1974, it won the championships in FIA GT, European GT, IMSA Camel GT, and SCCA Trans-Am. No wonder then that the RS 3.0 has become one of the most collectible classic Porsches ever, with well-preserved examples selling for north of one million dollars. GT Spirit’s version will be quite collectible as well, but at $140, the buy-in here is substantially more reasonable—and well worth it.
