Two people killed in fiery I-880 crash

SAN LEANDRO >> Two men were killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 880 early Saturday, authoritie­s said.

Around 2:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was called to the Davis Street off-ramp on southbound I-880, according to Officer Dustin Kennerly.

A car had crashed near the ramp and was fully engulfed in flames by the time officers arrived, Kennerly

said. One of the occupants was thrown from the vehicle in the crash and landed on the roadway; the other was inside the burning car.

Both people, initially identified as men in their 20s or 30s, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their identities were being withheld pending notificati­on of their next of kin.

More details surroundin­g the circumstan­ces of the crash were not immediatel­y released.
