Feel-good story lifts the spirits of readers
Q
Gary, I loved the good Samaritan story on Sunday about Marjorie Apel of Morgan Hill, who was stranded in her car when a young man rescued her. It was a super feelgood story.
Sorry about your sister-inlaw, who has COVID-19. And also sorry you can’t see your 2-year-old grandson. A good friend of mine has COVID and a bunch of us are splitting up the grocery shopping, meals and medication drop-offs. — Betsy Gebhart, San Jose

Thanks, and you and your pals deserve a huge pat on the back for helping your friend.

My buddy and I were in the Navy in the 70s, traveling from Sacramento to Naval Air Station North Island, when we came across two stranded gals on Interstate 5 around Kettleman City.
We stopped. Seems there was a major oil leak in their VW. We assisted and made sure they got home to Redlands unharmed. Long story short, I married one of the women, lasted 13 years and we have three beautiful daughters.
Would I do it again? In a heartbeat. There are good people still.

You and your Navy buddy are two of them. Yours is an
impressive good Samaritan story.

Thanks for Marjorie Apel’s story. We need all the good news we can get. Hoping for the best for your sister-in-law, and boy, can I relate to you missing your grandchild. — Carolyn Worthington, San Jose

Thank goodness for Facetime and Zoom. Mrs. Roadshow and I sure enjoy his great laugh and trying to keep up, even remotely, with his many changes every week.

I’m hoping maybe you can give me some suggestions or advice about a trip I have to make to Oregon in the next few weeks. In this time of COVID-19, I’m concerned about stops — particularly bathrooms — because what I took for granted might be closed.
Is there any kind of information or app that might tell me what’s open along Interstate 5? Food and gas I’m not so worried about, but I am about bathroom breaks. And where sometimes I slipped into a hotel, I know some are closed except to guests. Naturally, I’ll load up with disinfectant, masks, hand wipes, etc.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Believe me, if I didn’t have to go I wouldn’t. — Sharon Prager, San Mateo

Try the iExit app that shows freeways in all states and lists what services are available by exit, including gas stations and alternative fuels, restaurants, hotels and groceries.
And be sure to carry plastic bottles for pit stops if at some point you have no other alternative.
