One killed, three injured in fiery car-truck collision
The semi caught fire after impact, which sent it crashing into a nearby building
OAKLAND >> A woman was killed and three other people, including a 14-year-old girl, were injured late Monday night when a car and a semi-truck collided in East Oakland, authorities said.
Authorities were trying to identify the woman killed. She is believed to be in her 20s or 30s.
The collision happened at about 11:28 p.m. Monday at 68th Avenue and Foothill Boulevard and was heard by police officers in the area.
Police traffic investigators said an International semi-truck was traveling southbound on 68th Avenue when a Mercedes traveling west on Foothill Boulevard collided into it. After the collision, the semi-truck crashed into a building resulting in the truck and building catching fire, police said.
Firefighters responded and were able to extinguish the fires and provide medical treatment to those injured.
The woman killed was a passenger in the Mercedes and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Mercedes, a 33-year-old Hayward man, was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries.
Another female passenger in the Mercedes, a 14-year-old girl, was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
The driver of the truck, a 37-year-old Visalia man, suffered severe burns and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
Police said alcohol and speed appear to be factors in the collision.
