MARTINEZ >> Martinez Unified School District will have a new superintendent in just a few weeks.

The school board unanimously approved Julie Synyard as the new superintendent Monday; she is expected to begin Oct. 12.

She replaces C. J. Cammack, who resigned after four years with the district to accept the superintendent position at Fremont Unified. Synyard was found through a nationwide superintendent search.

Synyard has 20 years of public education experience. She most recently was the assistant superintendent of educational services in the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District, and she previously was an assistant principal and principal in St. Helena Unified, including principal at Tamalpais High School.

She was also a teacher of history and English in Albany Unified and an activities director and athletic director, according to the Martinez district.

“I am thrilled and humbled to have been selected by the board of trustees to serve the students, staff, families and community of Martinez as the new superintendent,” Sy nyard said in a statement. “Martinez Unified is a wonderful school district, and I am honored to have the opportunity to work with an incredible team of educators to support our children as they work towards realizing their academic passions and goals.”

Synyard has a bachelor’s degree in history from UCSan Diego, a master’s degree in educational leadership from St. Mar y’s College and a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Southern California.
