Teen, man killed in Monday shootings

OAKLAND >> Two people, one a 17-year- old boy and the other a 29-year- old man, were killed and another man was wounded in two East Oakland shootings less than a half-hour apart Monday night in East Oakland, authoritie­s said.

With the two killings, Oakland police have now investigat­ed 78 homicides this year, the same number as all of last year.

The names of the victims have not been released yet.

The youth was shot about 10:41 p.m. Monday outside in the 9800 block of Sunnyside Street in the city’s Iveywood neighborho­od.

He was found by police responding to a ShotSpotte­r alert. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:08 p.m., authoritie­s said.

Some vehicles and homes were also hit by gunfire but no other injuries were reported.

Police have not determined a motive yet for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

The other shooting happened about 10:20 p.m. in the 1700 block of Church Street, in the Havenscour­t neighborho­od.

Police responding to a ShotSpotte­r alert found the 29-year- old man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 26-yearold man who had also been shot. The 26-year- old man was taken to a hospital where he was in stable condition.

Police said the two men were friends. No motive has been released yet in the shooting and no arrests have been made.

The two shootings do not initially appear to be related, authoritie­s said.
