One dead, one injured in East Oakland shootings

OAKLAND >> A 35-year- old man was killed and another man wounded in separate shootings Friday night in East Oakland neighborho­ods, authoritie­s said.

The name of the man killed has not yet been released. Police said he was an Oakland resident.

Officers responding to ShotSpotte­r alerts about 8:30 p.m. Friday in the area near 89th Avenue and Internatio­nal Boulevard found the man shot inside a vehicle parked in the 1400 block of 89th Avenue. Despite first responders’ efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Other officers arrived and found additional evidence of a shooting, including multiple casings on the ground. Officers worked to control traffic by blocking off 89th Avenue between Internatio­nal Boulevard and Holly Street and westbound Internatio­nal traffic at 90th Avenue.

No motive has been determined yet for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

About 9:40 p.m., police responded to reports of ShotSpotte­r activity near 72nd Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard. No victim was found but officers did locate at least one rifle casing near 72nd Avenue and Lacey Street.

Moments later, officers learned a 40-year- old Oakland man had been shot at that site and had managed to get his own transporta­tion to an area hospital. He was in stable condition.

Police have not yet confirmed a motive for the shooting and have not made any arrests.
