Titans star Henry gets quite the rush

-

Derrick Henr y never asked to stay in the game. His Tennessee teammates made sure coach Mike Vrabel knew just how close the league’s leading rusher was to another 200-yard day.

So Vrabel stuck with Henry, who delivered a 20yard run in the fourth quarter that helped him make NFL history.

Henry ran for 215 yards and two touchdowns in the AFC South-leading Titans’ 31-10 rout of the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday.

It was Henry’s fourth game with at least 200 yards and two scores on the ground, breaking an NFL record he previously held with Hall of Famers Jim Brown, Barry Sanders and LaDainian Tomlinson.

“I love my teammates,” Henry said. “The unselfishness that they have for me, it’s really a blessing to have the teammates that I have. Coach Vrabel is just trying to look out for me, just so I didn’t take any extra shots.”

Henry also topped the century mark for the ninth consecutive road game, leaving him one shy of the NFL mark set by Sanders over the 1996 and 1997 seasons. ROOKIE RECOGNITION >> Jaguars running back James Robinson became the first undrafted rookie in NFL history to top 1,000 rushing yards in the first 14 weeks of a season. Robinson accomplished the feat with a 47yard run early in the fourth quarter.

He also became the fourth undrafted rookie in NFL history to reach 1,000 yards rushing, joining Indianapolis’ Dominic Rhodes (1,104 in 2001), Denver’s Phillip Lindsay (1,037 in 2018) and Tampa Bay’s LeGarrette Blount (1,007 in 2010). GOOD STARTS FOR JETS, BUT ... >> The winless New York Jets are doing one thing right: they continue to score on their opening drive. The Jets went 48 yards after taking the opening kickoff and got a 45-yard field goal from Sergio Castillo to take a 3- 0 lead on Seattle.

It’s the seventh straight game the Jets have scored on their opening possession, the longest active streak in the NFL. The Jets have five field goals and two touchdowns on those drives.

The lead was short-lived. The Seahawks took their opening possession and got a 19-yard TD pass from Russell Wilson to Freddie Swain en route to a 40-3 win that dropped the Jets to 0-13. BAD DAY FOR BAILEY >> Minnesota Vikings kicker Dan Bailey missed an extra point and field goal tries of 36, 54 and 46 yards in Sunday’s 2614 loss to Tampa Bay.

Bailey nearly cost the Vikings the previous week, missing two extra points and a potential winning kick before nailing a field goal in OT to beat Jacksonville.
