SAN RAMON >> San Ramon is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the City Council for the next two years.

The spot for District 2 on the council came open after Councilman Dave Hudson was elected mayor in November; longtime Mayor Bill Clarkson, first elected in 2011, did not run for reelection.

The council decided to fill the vacancy by an appointment, instead of having a special election, which would have cost $250,000. The term is to fill out the remainder of Hudson’s current term, which expires in November 2022.

Those interested in applying must reside in District 2, located between Alcosta Boulevard and Montevideo Drive, and be 18 years old and a registered voter. The council meets twice a month, on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.

Applications must be submitted online at governmentjobs. com/careers/sanramon/ before 4 p.m. Dec. 28. The number of applications will be narrowed down to eight people who will be invited to attend a formal interview by the City Council on Jan. 6. Anyone with questions may contact the city clerk at cityclerk@sanramon.ca.gov or 925973-2539.

The appointed council member is expected to be sworn in on Jan. 12.

Councilman Scott Perkins was reelected to District 1 in November, and newcomer and former parks Commissioner Sridhar

Verose was elected to the council for District 3. Both were recently sworn in to their new seats along with Mayor Hudson. Hudson held a long tenure as a councilman and was serving his sixth term before being elected mayor.
