Belibi dunks again as top-ranked Stanford tops UCLA

Francesca Belibi dunked again and scored 15 points, and No. 1 Stanford survived its closest game of the season, beating 10th-ranked UCLA 61- 49 on Monday at Pauley Pavilion to remain undefeated.

Belibi dunked early in the fourth quarter, a week after becoming the first woman to do so in a collegiate game since former Baylor star Brittney Griner in 2013. Belibi added seven rebounds.

F re shman Cameron Brink added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Cardinal (7- 0, 4- 0 Pac-12). Kiana Williams had 10 points.

Michaela Onyenwere finished with 19 points and seven rebounds, and Emily Bessoir, a freshman from Germany, added 15 points for the Bruins (5-2, 3-2).

Men

Jalen Cone scored 18 points off the bench to lead No. 24 Virginia Tech over Longwood 84-58 in Blacksburg, Va. The Hokies are 7-1, Longwood 1-7.

NO. 2, BAYLOR 99, ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 42 >> Freshman guard LJ Cryer scored 15 points to lead five scorers in double figures as the Bears (6- 0) cruised past Arkansas-Pine Bluff (1- 8) in Waco, Texas.

high 15 points and Balsa Koprivica added a seasonbest 14 as the Seminoles (51) pulled away late to defeat Gardner-Webb (1- 4) in Tallahasse­e, Fla.

GONZAGA, BAYLOR REMAIN 1-2 IN TOP 25 POLL >> Gonzaga strengthen­ed its grip on the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press Top 25 college basketball poll following an impressive victory over Iowa.

The Bulldogs (4- 0) received 61 of 64 first-place votes for a total of 1,597 points in the poll released Monday, with Baylor (5- 0) maintainin­g the No. 2 spot and earning the other three first-place votes and 1,538 points. Kansas (7-1) climbed two places to No. 3 after a 58-57 win at Texas Tech in Thursday’s Big 12 opener.

No. 4 Iowa (6-1) slipped one spot following Saturday’s 99-88 loss to Gonzaga.

MEMPHIS, HARD AWAY AGREE TO FIVE-YEAR EXTENSION >>

Memphis and basketball coach Penny Hardaway agreed to a fiveyear contract extension, the school announced. The new deal runs through April 15, 2026, and will pay Hardaway $2.325 million for each of the first two years, beginning April 16, 2021; $2.5 million a year in Years 3 and 4; and $2.6 million in the final year of the pact.

He has a 48-27 (.640) record and led the Tigers to back-to-back 20-win seasons in his first two campaigns.

KENTUCKY’ SCALIPARI ASKS FLETCHER TO ‘ STEP AWAY’ FROM TEAM >>

With Kentucky off to its worst start since 1926-27, Wildcats coach John Calipari asked freshman Cam’Ron Fletcher to take a few days off to adjust his attitude.

Fletcher, a four-star recruit from St. Louis, has averaged 2.2 points and 8.7 minutes in six games (one start) during Kentucky’s 1-5 start.

“He needs to reflect and do some soul searching to get his priorities in order,” Calipari posted in a series of three tweets. “Any attitude or actions that are detrimenta­l to this team will not be tolerated — and that goes for everyone on the team.” COVID CONCERNS:

Tonight’s scheduled game between Syracuse and Notre Dame was postponed and the Orange program went on pause because of at least one positive COVID-19 test in the program of a weekend opponent.

Buffalo also paused activities because of a positive test.
