Jacobs arrested for DUI after crash
Raiders Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he was injured in a single car crash in Las Vegas early Monday morning, according to police.
Jacobs, who had scored a crucial touchdown in the final seconds of the Raiders’ season- ending 32- 31 win over the Broncos, was taken to a hospital for minor injuries at around 4:40 a.m.
Las Vegas police said Jacobs was involved in an accident near the McCarran Airport Connector and East Sunset Road in Las Vegas hours after the team returned from a season- ending win in Denver. After he was checked out at a local hospital, Jacobs was transported to the Clark County Detention Center and booked for suspicion of DUI.
Jacobs’ attorneys, David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld, told the Las Vegas Review- Journal, “No complaint has been filed against our client and there are no blood tests results to support a suggestion of impairment. We intend to enter a not guilty plea on behalf of Mr. Jacobs if he is ever charged.”
“The Raiders are aware of the situation involving Josh Jacobs. The organization takes these matters seriously and we have no further comment at this time,” the team said in a statement released Monday afternoon.
While speaking with reporters, Raiders coach Jon Gruden didn’t offer much more than to express relief that Jacobs is doing well.
“We’re just aware of it. I will say that Josh is OK, and I’m not at liberty to comment on it until I get more facts,” Gruden said. “I do have word that Josh is OK, and we are looking in to the matter.”
Less than 12 hours before the crash, Jacobs enjoyed one of his finest days of the season, becoming the first Raiders running back to surpass the 1,000yard rushing mark in consecutive seasons since Marcus Allen in 1983- 84. He rushed for 89 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the win.
Jacobs scored a touchdown on a fourth-and- goal play from the 1-yard line with 24 seconds left to set up Darren Waller’s gamewinning two- point conversion catch to beat Denver.
