LIVERMORE >> A 26-yearold Livermore man has been arrested and charged with murdering his father in a case that family members reportedly told police likely was motivated by the son’s mental illness.

Timothy Young is in Santa Rita Jail facing charges of murdering his dad, Edward Tsung Yung Young, as well as an enhancement for alleged use of a knife in the crime. According to a police probable cause statement, the Jan. 4 homicide was preceded by two days of other violent conflicts among Timothy Young, his dad and other family members.

Around noon Jan. 4, Timothy Young allegedly called police and reported he’d been sexually assaulted and stabbed in the abdomen and that his father was dead, according to police.

When officers arrived, Edward Young was deceased and appeared as though he’d been dead for at least several hours.

Timothy Young was taken to a hospital for emergency medical treatment. It later was determined he’d been stabbed in the torso and the hand and also had a deep cut in his wrist, authorities said.

“A doctor treating Timothy

stated that his stab wounds and injuries could have been self-inflicted based upon their locations and depth,” Livermore police Detective Jennifer Bloom wrote in a probable cause statement filed in court.

When police interviewed Timothy Young’s mother, she told them he suffered delusions and hallucinations because of a mental illness, including a delusion that his mom was having an affair with a former landlord. Two days before the homicide, he’d choked her until his dad forced him to stop and punched her later that day. She said she left to stay with a friend because she was afraid, according to police.

When friends called the Livermore home for the next two days, Timothy Young told them Edward Young was unavailable, police said.

On Jan. 7, when authorities interviewed Timothy Young at an East Bay hospital, he denied having a mental illness. He said the day of the homicide, he had been sexually assaulted by his former landlord and a family member and “blacked out” twice. He said when he came to, he discovered his father was dead and that he’d been injured.

He is being held without bail. His next court hearing, an arraignment, is set for Jan. 26, according to court records.
