Stanford men lose on road to Pac-12 foe Colorado

McKinley Wright IV scored 14 points with eight assists and Evan Battey scored 13 with 12 rebounds and Colorado won its fourth straight game, beating visiting Stanford 77-64 on Saturday.

Colorado (11-3, 5-2 Pac-12) used a 14-0 run in the final 3:43 of the first half for a 40-26 lead at intermissi­on. Buffaloes freshman Tristan da Silva, the younger brother of Stanford’s Oscar da Silva, buried his first career 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the half.

Stanford (8-5, 4-3) — which has dropped two straight — never got within eight points in the second half.

Oscar da Silva led the Cardinal with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Ziaire Williams scored 17. COLORADO STATE 88, SAN JOSE STATE 61>> Isaiah Stevens and Adam Thistlewoo­d scored 16 points each and the Rams romped past the Spartans in Phoenix.

Colorado State (10-2, 7-1 Mountain West) won its fourth in a row.

Sebastian Mendoza and Richard Washington had 15 points apiece for San Jose State (2-10, 0-8), loser of four consecutiv­e games.

UCLA 81, WASHINGTON 76 >> Jules Bernard had 20 points and nine rebounds, and the first-place Bruins survived a scare from the last-place Huskies to earn their sixth straight win.

UCLA (11-2, 7-0 Pac-12) extended its home winning streak to 15 games.

Washington (1-11, 0-7) was led by Quade Green with 25 points.

NO. 23 MINNESOTA 75, NO. 7 MICHIGAN 57 >>

Liam Robbins had 22 points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes for the Golden Gophers, who handed the Wolverines their first loss.

Marcus Carr scored 17 points for Minnesota (11-4, 4-4 Big Ten), which played its seventh straight game against an opponent ranked in The Associated Press poll. Minnesota never trailed, holding the best shooting team in the conference to a season-low score and a season-high 20 turnovers.

Chaundee Brown Jr. scored 14 points for Michigan (11-1, 6-1), which

played without senior guard Eli Brooks due to a foot injury.

BUTLER 70, NO. 8 CREIGHTON 66, OT >> Aaron Thompson scored 17 points and found Bryce Nze for the go-ahead layup with 68 seconds left in overtime to complete the Bulldogs’ remarkable second-half comeback.

The Bluejays scored the first two baskets in overtime, but Butler took over from there, scoring eight straight points over the final 3:07. Nze, who made it 67-66 with his layup, finished with 15 points and nine rebounds.

The Bulldogs (4-7, 3-5 Big East) also overcame a 71-58 deficit over the final 71/2 minutes of regulation.

Denzel Mahoney scored 23 of his 29 points in the second half to lead Creighton (10-3, 6-2), which had a sixgame winning streak snapped.

NO. 2 BAYLOR 68, TEXAS TECH 60 >> Davion Mitchell had 19 points and Jared Butler finally scored late as the Bears overcame the Red Raiders to stay undefeated after their closest game this season.

Butler, the preseason AP All-American coming off a season-high 28 points in the last game, was 0-for-9 shooting with six turnovers before hitting consecutiv­e 3-pointers for the Bears (12-0, 5-0 Big 12) in the final five minutes.

Adam Flagler had 15 points for Baylor, which had won each of its first 11 games by double digits.

Mac McClung had 24 points for Texas Tech (11-4, 4-3), which was coming off a 79-77 win at No. 4 Texas on Wednesday. Kevin McCullar had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Red Raiders.

NO. 4 TEXAS 82, KANSAS STATE 67 >>

Kamaka Hepa scored 15 points in a rare appearance and the Longhorns rebounded from their first Big 12 loss of the season.

Hepa, who hadn’t started yet this season and had played in only three games, started in place of freshman forward Greg Brown, who was one of three Longhorns (11-2, 5-1) held out for reasons not immediatel­y disclosed. Given his chance, Hepa made five of Texas’ 12 3-pointers in the blowout.

The Longhorns broke the game open with an 18-0 run midway through the first half keyed by a burst of 3-pointers and a defensive press that rattled the Wildcats (5-9, 1-5). NO. 10 TENNESSEE 81, VANDERBILT 61 >> Keon Johnson scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half to lead the Volunteers (10-1, 3-1 SEC) past the Commodores (4-6, 0-4).

NO. 18 VIRGINIA 85, NO. 12 CLEMSON 50 >> Sam Hauser and Tomas Woldetensa­e had 14 points and four 3-pointers each as the Cavaliers (9-2, 5-0 ACC) won their 11th straight over the Tigers (9-2, 3-2).

Aamir Simms hit Clemson’s first field goal less than a minute in, then the Tigers went ice cold from the field as they missed their next 13 shots over a 10-minute span while Virginia opened up a double-digit lead.

NO. 21 OHIO STATE 87, NO. 14 ILLINOIS 81 >>

E.J. Liddell scored 26 points to lead the Buckeyes (11-3, 5-3 Big Ten).

Ayo Dosunmu led Illinois (9-5, 5-3) with 22 points.

MIAMI 78, NO. 16 LOUISVILLE 72 >> Isaiah Wong had 30 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and the Hurricanes (6-6, 2-5 ACC) beat the Cardinals (92, 4-1) to end an 18-game skid against ranked opponents.

Elijah Olaniyi added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Miami.

The previous time the Hurricanes stopped a ranked foe was at No. 9 North Carolina in February of 2018.

Carlik Jones scored 25 points for Louisville.
