The 49ers have kept exceptiona­lly quiet this offseason. Too quiet, perhaps.

Not a peep from coach Kyle Shanahan since Jan. 4, the day after last season’s injury-doomed procession to a 6-10 record.

General manager John Lynch also hasn’t previewed what’s about to unfold, other than his Pro Football Hall of Fame enshrineme­nt this summer and another vote of confidence in Jimmy Garoppolo. Unlike most teams, Shanahan and Lynch opted not to brief reporters ahead of free agency, with contract talks opening Monday and signings allowed Wednesday.

What’s there to say, really, other than create smokescree­ns?

Anything is better than rehashing 2020’s turmoil, from superstars’ injuries to a one-month closing act in Arizona because of COVID-19 restrictio­ns in Santa Clara County.

About that last subject, the 49ers’ brass insisted that free agents shouldn’t be scared off by another county ban, that
