A man shot by a Danville police officer last week has died from his injuries, according to law enforcement sources.

Tyrell Wilson, 32, had been in a hospital since the March 11 shooting. Authorities said Wilson was a transient who stayed in the vicinity of a park and ride lot in Danville.

In a statement after the shooting, Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said Wilson pulled out a folding knife and “advanced toward the officer.” Police had been called to the area of Sycamore Valley Road and Camino Ramon around noon.

According to Lee, officers received calls from more than one motorist that a man was throwing rocks off the overpass of Sycamore Valley Road onto Interstate 680.

Authorities have identified the officer who fired as Officer Andrew Hall, the same officer who shot and killed a man in 2018.

In that Danville incident, Hall fired more than one shot and killed 33-year-old Laudemer Arboleda of Newark.

Authorities said Hall fired as Arboleda tried to drive a vehicle through a gap between two law enforcement patrol cars. Arboleda’s mother filed a lawsuit in 2019 against Hall that remains in litigation. A coroner’s inquest determined that Hall acted in a “legal” and “proper” manner in the 2018 shooting.

In the shooting last week, Lee said the officer tried to talk with Wilson but that Wilson “pulled out a folding knife and then opened it.”

The officer ordered Wilson to drop the knife “several times,” Lee said.

The man “then advanced toward the officer,” Lee said. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Hall fired and hit Wilson one time. Authorities have not said how many times Hall fired.
