A 28-yearold Alameda man was in county jail Wednesday after his arrest on suspicion of multiple charges after fleeing police officers seeking to take him into custody, authorities said.

At 9:17 a.m. Wednesday, an officer responded to Shell Gas, 3900 San Pablo Ave., after a caller said a male driver was parked in a 2021 Dodge Charger with no license plate at the station pumps, playing music and asking customers for money.

When the officer asked the driver to turn his music down, he did so but appeared agitated, police said in a statement.

Soon after, a second officer arrived and gave the Dodge’s identification number to a dispatcher, who told him it had been reported stolen Monday from a Concord auto dealership.

As that officer told the driver he would be detained on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle, he resisted removal from the car before driving away, knocking an officer to the ground, police said.

The Dodge then stalled, allowing both officers time to use their stun guns, but they did not stop the driver, who fled the gas station parking lot, striking a vehicle on Sycamore Avenue. That vehicle’s driver was unhurt, police said.

The officers pursued the driver east along Willow Avenue but stopped pursuit after losing sight.

After alerting other agencies about the driver, the knocked-down officer was taken by ambulance to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek for treatment of minor injuries.

The officer later was released and was expected to fully recover.

Around 11:15 a.m., Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a report of a home burglary in Rodeo and detained a suspect who matched officers’ description of the driver. Hercules officers responded to that scene and took the driver, a 28-year-old Alameda man, into custody.

He was booked into Martinez county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer, resisting arrest, hitand-run, residential burglary and possession of a stolen auto.

Other officers searching nearby neighborhoods found the stolen vehicle — with the officers’ stun gun wires still there inside — abandoned along the 800 block of Mariners Point in Rodeo.

Anyone with information may call Hercules police at 510-724-1111.
