The Bottom Line: The Ford Bronco was first introduced in 1965 as a 1966 model.

In 1967 a 289 cubic inch V8 engine became available, and with more power, the price goes up. Today the 289 V/8 equipped Bronco wagon is worth an average of $38,100, while Bronco pickups average $33,900, and the Bronco roadsters average $36,500. Ford looked at the numbers and said, hey, maybe it’s time we brought back the Bronco.

The last Bronco rolled off the assembly line on June 12, 1996 at the Michigan Truck Assembly Plant. The taste of the American consumer was changing, and the stalwart two door sport utility vehicle was being replaced in the Ford lineup by the four door Expedition.

After a 25 year hiatus, the sixth generation Bronco today is a midsize SUV for the adventurous that are looking to buy an SUV that stands out from the crowd. Well the wait was worth it. Say Hello to the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport, the first model in the Bronco compact SUV lineup for the 21st century.

The compact SUV class is one of the biggest in entry’s with 15 different makes and models competing for your cash. Ford knows that the Bronco name, just like the Mustang brand, will install instant creditably for value, style, content and performance.

This week Ford sent me a 2021 Ford Bronco Sport 4x4 Outer Banks Edition SUV to test drive and review. The base price for this Bronco Sport model is $32,160. The options on the SUV are: the Outer Banks package for $1,595 and the Ford Co-Pilot 360 Assist+ Plus package for $795. The total MSRP manufacturer’s suggested retail price, including the $1,495 destination charge came to: $36,045. A very fair price to pay for a brand new, nicely equipped, midsize SUV, with classic Ford Bronco creed.

To get back in the game Ford powers the Bronco Sport with a 1.5L liter Ecoboost I-3 inline 3 cylinder engine with 181 horsepower with 190 ft-lbs of torque, mated to an 8 speed automatic transmission with OD overdrive, spinning through a 4x4 four wheel drive system. This engine, trans and 4x4 drivetrain give the Bronco Sport the power it needs, while still getting good gas mileage and lower emissions on all levels.

The Outer Banks edition package is the best go-to option overall. The Bronco Sport starts with a Base model, then Big Ben, Outer Banks, Badlands and the First Edition Model. Ford predicts that the Outer Banks model will be the volume model that buyers will want. It’s right in the middle of the pack, has the best options for everyday driving, and has enough off road chops for that occasional romp over the hill, and through the woods, to that right on the lake campsite.

To get there all Bronco’s have a G.O.A.T. mode terrain management system. G.O.A.T. stands for Goes Over Any type of Terrain, including sand, slippery, sport, eco, and normal traction surfaces, which explains the Ford Bronco model’s capabilities and focus.

The Outer Banks package includes the power moonroof, a wireless charging pad, the HD high definition B&O Bang & Olufsen premium sound system with 10 speakers, power leather trimmed seats, a leather wrapped and heated steering wheel, ambient lighting, dual-zone automatic climate control, a rubberized cargo floor, LED auto dimming headlamps, LED fog lamps, and a 110 volt 150 watt power outlet, plus many more. All the things you need to make a weekend road trip the best 2 days of the week.

Now let’s talk price and options. The Bronco Sport starts at only $26,820, comes with AWD and G.O.A.T. as standard equipment, has seating for 5, offers 5 trim & equipment levels, and looks fantastic, even standing still. The Bronco Sport is the first model in the Bronco lineup, and the Outer Banks Edition checks all the right boxes.

According to NADA, the National Automobile Dealers Association, the average cost of a new car in 2020 was $38,521. So why buy an average car? You can be driving a super cool, brand new for 2021, Ford Bronco Outer Banks Edition SUV, and be the first one on your block to step up to a Bronco Sport, for the same price as an everyday econobox on wheels.

When you’re ready to buy a new compact SUV, the Bronco Sport should be at the top of your ride and drive list, as it’s the newest, and coolest SUV on the market today. So, call, click or visit your local Ford dealer for a test drive, and a Bottom Line price review, on the new for 2021 Ford Bronco Sport.
