November 17, 2021 Resident of Concord, CA

-

Jerry Shafer, age 79, passed away peacefully in Concord on Wednesday November 17, 2021 after suffering from complications associated with Parkinson’s disease. He touched many with his positive and charismatic spirit and unrelenting enthusiasm for sports.

Jerry grew up in Brooklyn where he graduated both high school and college. In 1963, he married Andrea Brassner and they moved to Palo Alto where Jerry attended graduate school in Psychology at Stanford. The next move was to Los Angeles where Jerry obtained his PhD in Psychology from USC. Their first child, Kevin, was born in 1967 and the family relocated to the Bay Area so Jerry could begin his career as a Clinical Psychologist. Their daughter, Pam, was born in 1970, and Andi and Jerry planted their roots in Concord and they continued to raise their family in the same community for decades. Jerry devoted his life serving as a Clinical Psychologist to help improve the lives of many until he retired in his early 70’s. He enjoyed tennis in his able-bodied years and loved to play poker with his usual group. Jerry was an avid sports fan, following the Warriors, the A’s and the 49ers wholeheartedly.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Andi, and his children Kevin and Pam, as well as his sister Florence, who lives in New York.

A small service was held at Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary on November 19, 2021 as per Jerry and the family’s Jewish faith. Donations in his name are welcome to any charity whose purpose is to advance research towards finding a cure for Parkinson’s disease.
