Betty Peterson passed away after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. Born Betty Jean Heckes in Minnesota, she moved to California at 8 years old with her sister Elaine and her mother Mildred, followed later by her sisters Eunice and Ione. She and her high school sweetheart Phil married when she was 18. They were blessed with three children, Phil Jr., Denise, and Lori, and settled in Concord. Betty loved being a homemaker and mother, delighting in her children’s accomplishments and caring for her family with love. She enjoyed gardening and decorating to make a beautiful and nurturing home.

Betty loved traveling the world with her friends and family, from the blue waters of the Caribbean to the natural wonders of Italy and the fall leaves of Vermont. Her favorite place was Carmel on the California coast. She was blessed with close friends from high school, Kay, Marge, & Nancy, who made time to travel with her every year of her retired life. Betty was a firm believer in the saying, “Make new friends, but keep the old, one is silver, the other is gold.” She was intentional about staying connected with her family and friends with frequent letters, phone calls, and cards. She enjoyed reading and watercolor painting, always in the middle of a good book or painting class project. Betty loved to entertain, hosting gatherings in her home throughout her life and blessing people with delicious food and delightful conversation.

Betty worked in the Accounts Payable Department at Mount Diablo Hospital for 25 years. She served her community in many ways, including fundraising for the March of Dimes in her mother’s honor, raising people’s spirits with the Red Hat Society ladies, and welcoming new neighbors with care packages. Phil & Betty retired in Brentwood, where Betty made new friends and went on adventures with the community’s clubs.

Betty is survived by her children Phil Jr., Denise and Lori, sister Eunice, grandchildren Jennifer, Ashley, Jesse, and Brandon, and seven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Phil, granddaughter Nicole, and sisters Elaine and Ione.
