Marlins' Alcantara dominates Braves

Sandy Alcantara matched his career high with 14 strikeouts, dominating the Atlanta Braves for the second time in a week and leading the visiting Miami Marlins to a 4-1 victory Saturday.

Alcantara (5-2) allowed only four hits with no walks in eight innings while earning his third consecutiv­e win.

Miguel Rojas had three hits, including a homer off Darren O'Day in the sixth. Garrett Cooper's two-run double off Collin McHugh in the seventh made it 4-1.

Atlanta fell to 4-12 in day games, the worst record in the majors. The Braves began the day hitting only .203 in afternoon games, also the worst mark in the big leagues.

Alcantara improved to 4-1 in nine career starts against Atlanta. The right-hander went the distance Sunday in a 4-3 victory over the Braves at home.

CARDINALS 8, BREWERS 3 >> Nolan Gorman hit his first major league homer and Matthew Liberatore earned his first major league win, helping St. Louis to a home win over Milwaukee.

Liberatore (1-0), the organizati­on's minor league player of the year last season, pitched five scoreless innings. He allowed two hits, struck out six and walked three.

Gorman had four hits, drove in four runs and scored three times. Paul Goldschmid­t had three hits, including a homer, and also drove in four runs while extending his hitting streak to 19 games.

ROYALS 7, TWINS 3 >> Rookie Bobby Witt Jr. delivered three more doubles for his second straight three-hit game and visiting Kansas City defeated Minnesota.

A double shy of hitting for the cycle Friday, Witt doubled in his first two at-bats, both times driving home Andrew Benintendi. Witt added a double in the seventh inning.

Of Witt's 41 hits, 22 have been for extra bases, including a team-best 13 doubles.

Hunter Dozier added three hits, including a two-run single in the seventh, as the Royals won for just the second time in nine games.

GUARDIANS 8, TIGERS 1 >> José Ramírez homered and drove in five runs, leading Shane Bieber and Cleveland to a victory at Detroit.

Ramírez hit a three-run triple in the seventh inning and a two-run shot in the ninth for his 12th homer. The three-time All-Star has a major league-best 48 RBIs in 42 games.

Bieber (2-3) allowed one run and eight hits in a season-high eight innings. He struck out five and walked none.

RED SOX 5, ORIOLES 3, FIRST GAME >> Nathan Eovaldi pitched a seven-hitter for his first career complete game, and Boston beat Baltimore at Fenway Park.

The matchup was tied at 3 before Bobby Dalbec's pinch-hit homer in the sixth.

Eovaldi (2-2) allowed two earned runs, struck out six and walked one.

NATIONALS 13, ROCKIES 7, FIRST GAME >> Victor Robles homered, singled twice and drove in a career-high six runs as host Washington routed Colorado.
