Stunning Remodel Creates Environment of Wellbeing

- By Monica Lander

Completely reimagined and rebuilt while retaining the integrity of its charming façade and architectural detailing, this home in El Cerritos’ coveted St. Jerome neighborhood is a feast for the eyes.

Acute attention to every detail creates a design aesthetic that is “an eclectic fusion” of the highest quality materials, appliances, and finishes. Its brilliant blend of sophistication, ultracomfort, and custom interior design create an environment of wellbeing. This gem of a home

at 240 Carmel Avenue is offered fully furnished right down to the superb artwork so that its new owners can smoothly transition into their forever home. Step into its 1,568 square feet of living space, and it’s like entering an oasis of calm.

The home, about a mile from the Solano Avenue shops and restaurants, is the latest development by the Truly Human Living Design Group led by Barbara Bacigalupi. She is a University of California, Berkeley educated and published biological scientist who is well versed in the principles of proportion and creating home designs that offer a seamless transition between nature and a home’s interior design. Jon Larson, an architect

with Oakland’s Jarvis Architects, designed the new addition maximizing space, function, and natural light.

The open concept living room, dining room, and chef ’s kitchen are beautifully appointed and feature large Marvin double pane Low E windows and sliders. There are three bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms, plus a 260-squarefoot finished and light-filled basement that offers an ideal

work-from-home space, home gym, studio, or even a winetasting room. The front and backyard gardens are an extension of the fabulous living space and offer lots of room for entertaining or quiet retreats.

A new brick patio is an ideal outdoor dining venue near the Alfa pizza oven and a barbecue island with a Mont Alpi grill and side quartz counters. A custom landscape design with lush foliage, fruit trees, and raised vegetable beds also

enhances the elevated Trex deck furnished as an outdoor living room and the nearby inflatable Coleman hot tub. The melodic sounds of cascading water from the ball fountain add to the peaceful ambiance.

The interior design is a celebration of textures and luxuriousness. The original

brick was repaired to create an inviting entry into this home that features hardwood floors, smooth textured walls, Phillip Jeffries wallpaper, including grasscloth-covered walls, designer fixtures, and vintage pieces. The living room has a front-facing view window and a linear electric fireplace. Walk into the sizeable dining room with a bar, quartz counter, wine refrigerator, glass shelving, and decorative backsplash. Slide open the glass door to extend this sizeable entertaining space into inviting backyard venues.

European-style black matte and gloss white cabinetry wraps around the chef ’s kitchen with an operable skylight, an oversized double peninsula, Noir and Blanco

Vdara quartz counters, and full backsplash, and a goldcolored Ruvati stainless sink, and a faucet with a pot filler. Appliances include a Dacor 42-inch built-in refrigerator, microwave/convection oven combination, and a Miele dishwasher. An Ilve Majestic, Italy’s premiere range, features dual-fuel, dual ovens, and fiveburners with a grill.

Behind a frost glass barn door is the primary suite with a bay window and view of the backyard gardens. The spa-inspired

en suite with a heated floor also views the gardens. Enjoy the luxuriousness of the oversized jetted tub, large shower, white lacquer cabinetry and floating vanity with champagne wallmounted faucets, and carved granite vessel sinks. Linen finished wall tile, and picket fence tile add to its aesthetic.

The walk-in closet features custom organizers, including room for 50 pairs of shoes and a stacked LG washer/dryer.

Two additional bedrooms include one with a front-facing Bay view and Baker vintage furniture and one with a backyard garden view. Each has sliding opaque paneled closet doors and John Louis closet systems. These bedrooms share a full bathroom with a dual-molded sink floating vanity, a heated tile floor, and a shower with decorative tile.

Step down into the fabulous finished basement filled with natural light and featuring a built-in Acacia wood desk for two. This room has access to the garage and a powder room.

Enjoy the centralized El Cerritos Hills location and convenient proximity to shopping, restaurants, freeway access, BART, Tilden Park, and buses to UC Berkeley.

Additional features include a one-car garage with a Tesla charger, granite grip floor, and a new garage door with battery backup.
