Olson hits two HRs as Braves beat Phillies

Matt Olson homered twice and Travis d'Arnaud also went deep to lift the Atlanta Braves to a 5-3 victory over the Philadelph­ia Phillies on Tuesday night.

The Phillies were without Bryce Harper for the second straight game, and the 2021 NL MVP will be sidelined indefinite­ly due to a broken left thumb that interim manager Rob Thomson said will require surgery.

Olson put on a Harper-like display with his two homers, the second time he's done that in a game this season and the 13th in his career.

BLUE JAYS 6, RED SOX 5 >> Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a game-winning single in the ninth inning and the Toronto Blue Jays rallied to beat the Boston Red Sox.

NATIONALS 3, PIRATES 1 >> Patrick Corbin matched a career high with 12 strikeouts, Yadiel Hernandez delivered a go-ahead tworun double, and the Washington Nationals rallied in the eighth inning for the second straight game, beating the Pittsburgh Pirates.

GUARDIANS 3-0, TWINS 2-6 >>Jorge Polanco drove in three runs in his first game back from the injured list and rookie Josh Winder pitched six stellar innings as the Minnesota Twins earned a day-night doublehead­er split with a 6-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians.

Amed Rosario's clutch two-run single in the eighth inning rallied Cleveland to a 3-2 win in the opener.

BREWERS 5, RAYS 3 >> Brandon Woodruff struck out 10 over five innings in his return from the injured list, Andrew McCutchen and Luis Urías homered during a four-run sixth, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays.

ASTROS PLACE BRANTLEY ON IL >> The Houston Astros have placed five-time All-Star Michael Brantley on the injured list with right shoulder discomfort.

The team announced the move Tuesday prior to a game against the New York Mets. Brantley left Houston's 6-3 loss to the New York Yankees on Sunday in the eighth inning.

BRAVES PUT JANSEN ON IL WITH IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT >> The Braves on Tuesday placed Kenley Jansen on the injured list with an irregular heartbeat. The move is retroactiv­e to June 27. The Braves on Monday made the decision to put him on the injured list.

REPORTS: FREEMAN FIRES AGENT >> When Freddie Freeman left the Atlanta Braves and landed with the Los Angeles Dodgers, there was shock within the industry. Now Freeman has fired the agency that represente­d him in his offseason negotiatio­ns, Excel Sports Management, according to multiple sources. Casey Close, who was the lead agent in Freeman's talks with the Braves and Dodgers, did not comment.
