Charlie Plowman, owner of Outlook Newspapers in La Cañada Flintridge, has acquired the assets of three recently folded newspapers from California Times, parent company of the Los Angeles Times. He takes immediate ownership of the Burbank Leader, Glendale News-press and La Cañada Valley Sun. Plowman plans to combine the Valley Sun with La Cañada Outlook, a newspaper he has been publishing since 1998, into one publication and restart the Glendale and Burbank papers. The Leader was founded in 1985 as a successor to the Burbank Daily Review, which was founded in 1908. The News-press dates back to 1905 and the Valley Sun was founded in 1946. The Times added it to its Times Community News portfolio in 2005. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The Daily Clintonian, which ceased publication on April 10, has been purchased by Don L. Hurd, president of Hoosier Media Group, Hometown Media and Heartland Media Group, from the Carey family. Hurd purchased the paper with the intent to restart it, according to John Thomas, Cribb of Cribb, Greene & Cope, who represented the Carey family.

The Clintonian had been in the Carey family since 1936, when George and Elizabeth Carey purchased the newspaper. Their children, George “Sonny” Carey and Diane Waugh had been operating the Clintonian since the mid-1980s.
