MELVA D. WAGNON
Melva Dean Wagnon, 90, of Maumelle, passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2015.
She was born in Marion, La., to W. L. and Jessie Edwards Cates and was a member of the Maumelle Church of Christ.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Cortez G. Wagnon; children, Sherry Vandeventer (Charles), of Spokane, Wash., Gary Wagnon (Nancy), of Tucson, Ariz., Randall Wagnon, of Houston, Texas, Tammy Childress (Bryon), of Maumelle, and Chris Gonzales (Daniel), of Arlington, Texas; brother, Bonnie Ray Cates (Edna); and sister-in-law (and best friend), Helen Thompson (Everett), both of El Dorado; and grandchildren, Kevin Vandeventer and Jeff Vandeventer, both of Spokane, Wash., Christopher Wagnon and Allen Wagnon, both of Tucson, Ariz., Randall Wagnon of Dallas, Texas, Meredith Wagnon, of Arlington, Texas, Lauren (Kring), of Tucson, Kelsey Hatcher, Larkin Hatcher, Haley Hatcher and Lynley Childress, all of Maumelle, as well as six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Elton Cates and Odie Cates.
Melva performed many jobs over the years, but her greatest role was that of mother and grandmother. “Grammy’s” greatest joy in life came from creating adventures, making costumes, cookies and life-long memories for her grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful team from Gentiva Hospice and her loving nurses and caregivers at the Lakes of Maumelle.
Services will be held a 1 p.m. Saturday at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Road).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Maumelle Church of Christ, 13806 Overstreet Road, Maumelle, AR 72113.
