‘Christian’ Facebook pages, messages all too often can lead people astray

Most of the time on my Facebook I will see posts by my friends, funny videos and animal posts.

However, on occasion, a friend will post something quite controversial and disgusting.

Their Facebook community page is under Disciples of the New Dawn. The highly misguided and toxic “Father” Patrick Embry, whose teachings are brainwashing his followers who run the page, posted something that caused quite an uproar among several of my friends a few weeks ago.

The post states “Autism is 100 percent preventable. No vaccines= ruined child. The facts are there people. If you didn’t do your research and read up on the dangers of vaccines, then you are a terrible parent. We pray for the poor children who have been permanently damaged by vaccines.”

Underneath the post was a photo depicting three children with disabilities, one of which could easily be identified as a precious angel with Down Syndrome. The text on the picture reads “parents who vaccinate their children are a threat to national security.”

Basically, the beliefs and craziness that is splashed over the page seems to be the teaching of a cult leader masking himself as a Christian, twisting those words into something that is beneficial to him and his beliefs.

Had a C-section giving birth? DND believes that you are less of a woman because of that. Since it is “unnatural” for women to have their children cut from their womb by way of ceasarean, even if it was an emergency situation, child protective services should be called because said mother is “negligent” and has in some way hurt their beloved infant.

Have stretch marks from your pregnancy? Don’t be proud of those. According to them, they are “disgusting guilt scars on your flabby gut.”

This page seriously mirrors another page called Conservative Christians for Christine Weick, which mostly spouts hate against homosexuals, vaccinating children, gender equality and a topic close to my heart—pit bulls.

Curious about this particular “Christian activist,” I looked up videos on YouTube about her.

One video depicts her talking to another person about how Monster energy drinks are satanic. Another shows her invading a Muslim prayer service and talking about how America was founded on Christian values. Another video shows her holding up a sign on a roadside that says “Thank your mom today for not being gay.” A woman then approaches Weick, throws a slush on her, and speaks her mind against against Weick.

One thing is for certain, it worries me how easily people are led one way or another. All it takes is a charismatic leader who can manipulate, brainwash and twist words, making them seem to be completely real and believable. That thought leads me to think of a few names in particular—Marshall Applewhite, Jim Jones and Adolf Hitler. All incredibly charismatic, all promising their people improved lives, all gaining a mass of followers and all leading their flock to tragic ends.

My only wish is for people to be smarter, to see through what that charismatic leader believes.

Though we might have some slip through the cracks, we should actively do our part in making sure that our loved ones and our children don’t fall prey to such predators and hate-filled beliefs. After all, the good book does say that when the Antichrist comes, that leader will be charismatic, promising paradise, gain a mass following and eventually lead their flock to tragedy.
