SAAC Arts Academy Announces Fall Class Lineup for Glee and Drama

Fall classes will begin soon at the South Arkansas Arts Center’s Arts Academy. The Drama, Glee, Dance Jamboree will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday at the arts center. Everyone is invited to come see what will be happening in the drama and Glee classes and meet the teachers. Refreshmen­ts will be served and classes will begin the week after Labor Day.

“Tada! Art and Drama,” will be taught by Joey and Marsha Antoon and Gay Bechtelhei­mer. The class will be dedicated to school readiness skills “because learning can be fun, and by nurturing the creative spirit the teachers can mold creative thinkers. The class will use acting, movement and visual arts to help develop fine motor skills, critical thinking skills, vocabulary and imaginatio­n . Class time will be held from 2:30 until 4 p.m. on Monday.

“Glee Club,” will be directed by Head Gleek, Amy Allen, local singer/ songwriter. This semester Glee Club will focus on the greatest hits of all times. Public performanc­es will be scheduled toward the end of the year. No auditions and everyone is welcome to attend. Glee Club will be held from 6 until 7 p.m. on Mondays.

Grades K-1 Drama class, taught by Lyn Gunter, will use acting and movement to continue developing fine motor skills, critical thinking skills, vocabulary and imaginatio­n. This class will be offered from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. on Mondays. Drama class for grades two through four will “challenge students to tap into their own imaginatio­ns as they create characters and stories for the stage.” Beginning with class on Oct. 25, students will work together to develop a Christmas story theatre piece to be presented as part of the Christmas production Dec. 2-3. Class will meet from 3:30 until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Shelton Harden will lead the class.

Grades five through eight drama class, also taught by Harden, will spend the first four weeks of class working on short monologues and scenes. Work on the Christmas production, Ebenezer’s Christmas Carol by Tracy Krauss, will begin with the Oct. 11 class. This class will be held from 4:30 until 6 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Drama Club for grades nine through 12, taught by Gunter, will work as a team to create a touring performanc­e of The Crucible by Arthur Miller. The drama is set against the historical backdrop of Salem’s witchcraft trials. The audition process will begin on the first day of class, Sept. 8. This class will meet from 5 until 6:30 p.m. on Thursdays.
