Trump statue vandalized, removed near Vegas music fest site
LAS VEGAS (AP) — An artist's likeness of a naked Donald Trump didn't last long in a parking lot near a downtown Las Vegas music festival site.
The statue of the Republican presidential nominee was knocked down and sprayed with graffiti overnight. It was removed Friday from a corner near the Life is Beautiful festival venue.
All that remained was a pedestal with two pink feet attached, The Las Vegas ReviewJournal reported.
Las Vegas police Officer Michael Rodriguez had no immediate information about the incident.
The statue was spotted Wednesday outside festival grounds. However, a festival spokeswoman said the event had no involvement in its display.
Life is Beautiful, a three-day outdoor music and arts festival, is in its fourth year and features dozens of performers. Headliners this year include Mumford & Sons, J. Cole, Major Lazer, The Lumineers, G-Eazy, Empire of the Sun, Jane's Addiction and Bassnectar.
The vandalism in Las Vegas comes after life-sized Trump statues disappeared this week in Miami and in New Jersey.
The statues were produced by Las Vegas artist Joshua Monroe. They first appeared in August in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Seattle.
Puff Daddy donates $1 million to Howard University
WASHINGTON (AP) — Puff Daddy is donating $1 million to Howard University, where he once was a student.
The rapper and music mogul, whose real name is Sean Combs, made the announcement alongside Howard President Wayne Frederick at his Bad Boy Records reunion tour show Thursday night in Washington, D.C., where the historically black college is located.
Howard says the money will go toward creating a Sean Combs Scholarship Fund, which will award money to undergraduate business majors with a financial need. The school also says recipients will get an internship with one of Combs' companies and mentoring through Combs Enterprises.
Combs spent two years at Howard before dropping out in 1990. He received an honorary doctorate and served as commencement speaker in 2014.
Adult son of MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough fractures skull in fall
NEW YORK (AP) — MSNBC host Joe Scarborough says his son is doing "much better" after suffering a fractured skull Thursday.
Scarborough's "Morning Joe" co-host Mika Brzezinski said on Friday's program that 25-year-old Andrew Scarborough was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in New York after falling down a flight of stairs. Brzezinski says the younger Scarborough's condition is "touch and go" but says he has been stabilized.
Joe Scarborough missed Friday's show, but said on Twitter that Thursday was "a frightening day and long night." The former congressman says Andrew was able to respond to a neurologist's questions. He said the doctor "ended by asking him his favorite team." Scarborough said Andrew replied, "The Red Sox, who've won 8 in a row."
CBS to donate Charles Osgood's bow tie to museum
NEW YORK (AP) — CBS says it will donate the bow tie that Charles Osgood wears Sunday to host his final edition of "Sunday Morning" to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
The 83-year-old newsman is stepping down after 22 years as anchor of the leisurely-paced "Sunday Morning," which usually dominates the news ratings on that day. CBS will devote most of the broadcast this Sunday to honoring his career.
The bookish, poetry-reciting Osgood is only the second host the show has ever had since its start in 1979, following Charles Kuralt. CBS hasn't named Osgood's successor yet.
